The results of the study ‘24h – making the invisible visible’ reveal significant weaknesses and shortcomings in the system of 24-hour care in Austria. Around 1,500 caregivers throughout Austria were surveyed in a quantitative online survey between April and May 2024. The research project was initiated by IG24, FORBA (Research and Counselling Centre for the Working World) and the University of Vienna.

45% of those surveyed stated that they had experienced violence at work. Since 96.6% of those surveyed were female, this can be considered gender-specific violence. Many migrant carers live with their clients during their working hours – they therefore lack a place of retreat and are at the mercy of psychological and physical violence as well as sexual abuse and racism.

Due to the working conditions, carers are often isolated – an exchange with colleagues is therefore only possible to a limited extent.
